Dating back to 1606, its name is inspired by the woodsmen of the nearby Clifton Wood, and the pub has been home for all sorts throughout the centuries, from cock-fighting rings to bare-knuckle boxing, as well as hosting famous regulars like the pirate Blackbeard.
