Going against the grain

You may be wondering why we’ve got a T-Rex on our pump clip these days, in particular a T-Rex on fire…

We worked closely with Pedro Oyarbide, a hugely talented illustrator based in Bristol to create individual illustrations for each of our beers in the Butcombe stable.

Although different to what you might be used to seeing from us, they say a change is as good as a rest, and after near on 40 years of brewing…

The creativity, commitment and bravery that it took to start an independent brewery back in 1978, at a time when it was a real risk, way before craft brewing was a lifestyle statement is reflected across all of our designs. But particularly brought out in our flaming T-Rex.

Firstly, you can’t get more Original than a dinosaur, right? Secondly, we’ve been called a bit dinosaur like in our approach over the years, our single-minded vision has stood the test of time and done us proud, but we’re not too proud to poke a little fun at ourselves. Finally, as we’ve said above, Butcombe opened a brewery at a time when it was completely against the grain to do so, the nation’s brewing industry was at, arguably its lowest point, following 80 straight years of decline, with breweries disappearing all over the place. So, really why do we have a flaming T-Rex on our pump clips? Because we’re Butcombe, and we do what we like!

We’ve had fun creating these new designs for our range and hope you enjoy them as much as the liquid inside them. But even if you don’t, that’s okay, because it’s only the beer that really matters and ours, well it’s as original today as it was 39 years ago. And, unlike branding, great tasting beer is something we can all agree on.
