The 2018 World Cup - Butcombe style

June 7, 2018

It’s here! The worldwide phenomenon which comes around just once every four years, when even the least sport-loving individual will find themselves (at least momentarily) swept up in the excitement of a match. Oh yes, we’re talking about the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

We’re a pretty patriotic bunch here at Butcombe and we can’t wait to see the Three Lions on the pitch playing the beautiful game. Now we’re not going to pretend that we know much about football ourselves (we are a brewery after all…) but we do know that there are a good few of you out there that do! That’s why we’ll have all of the biggest games showing in our pubs throughout the tournament, from The Lime Kiln in Langport up to The Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham – we’ve got you covered with the best food, the best beer and the best atmosphere.

Want to know the best thing? You can get a free beer just for coming and watching the World Cup with us! Simply book a table to eat at any of our managed pubs during the World Cup and get a free pint of Original or pint of our sister brewery’s Moscow Pale Ale! (T+C’s apply)

If that’s not enough of a reason to celebrate the sporting event of the year with us, we’ve also brewed our very own World Cup beer!

Meet El Toro, an English Wheat Ale which uses lashings of Wai-iti and Wakatu hops to drive a big, refreshing citrus and lime zest hop character into the beer whilst maintaining a fairly restrained bitterness. We’ve also used malted wheat to help smooth the beer out creating an utterly delicious and easily drinkable beer. It goes perfectly with seafood where the sweetness from the malt compliments dishes with prawns and scallops, and it truly comes into its own when matched with dishes involving kaffir lime or lemongrass, think Thai Green Curry vibes.

Keep an eye out for El Toro on tap at your local pub, where we look forward to celebrating the highs and lows of the World Cup with you.

If The World Cup just doesn’t take your fancy, don’t fret! There’s a football-free pub just for you. The Bower Inn, The Cottage, The Castle Inn and The Bowl are all no-football zones.

The managed pubs who are partaking in the free pint deal: The Bell, The Bear Inn, The Frog & Fiddle, The Hatchet, The Lamb, The Lime Kiln, The Methuen Arms, The Old Restoration, The Ostrich, The Pelican Inn, The Pig and Fiddle, The Quarrymans Arms, The Rodney Stoke, The Royal Oak, The Smoking Dog, The Swan Inn, The Woolpack.
